It might seem like the days of being carefree and lighthearted are gone.
You imagined bringing home baby as filled with bliss and contentment.
There are moments of this. But, there are also moments when it is far from this. Sleep deprivation and little time for yourself, all make it feel unmanageable at times. Thoughts are consumed with worry or sadness. Worry about the baby. Worry about unexpected demands on you, your body, your sleep, your relationships. Postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety may take hold.
This is not what you were expecting!
Your experience as a mother can be better…
Sharing the worrying and sometimes scary thoughts with a therapist can help. It’s a relief. Exploring tools and strategies to manage these unexpected thoughts and feelings can be empowering and help you create the experience you want to have with your new baby.
Your experience with your partner can be better…
The relationship with a partner also changes during this time. There is little time, or energy, to focus on one another. Expectations may be disappointing. In therapy, we can work toward developing new understandings with your partner, new ways of negotiating and creating balance between the two of you.
