*Online Therapy in California Currently Provided*
Headway Therapy Group is out of network with insurance. This means that I am not contracted with insurance companies. A Superbill can be provided, that you may be able to submit to your insurance for reimbursement. Depending on your insurance plan, specifically if you have a PPO plan, your insurance will reimburse a portion of the cost of therapy.
Using an out of network therapist offers several advantages to you. In network providers tend to be booked to capacity and have long wait times (if offered) to see them. This is especially true in big cities or highly populated areas, like North County San Diego! Going out of network also allows you to choose the provider of your choice – ensuring that you are able to work with the therapist with whom you have a strong, positive connection and one who offers particular specialities.
Steps to using out of network benefits
- Check your out of network benefits: Look at your Summary of Benefits, usually included in your information packet or on the insurance website. Look for the terms: out of network benefit deductible and coinsurance. Your out of network deductible is the amount of money you have to pay before your insurance company will reimburse you for the cost of services you utilize. Your coinsurance is the percentage of the service fee that you are ultimately responsible for.
- Call your insurance company: Once you understand what your deductible and coinsurance is, it is helpful to call your insurance. This is the best way to verify your information. Ask them:
- How much of my deductible has been met this year?
- What is my deductible for outpatient mental health treatment?
- What is my coinsurance for outpatient mental health treatment?
- Do I need a referral to see an out of network provider?
- How do I submit superbills?
- Ask for a superbill: you can request a superbill after each session or once a month. You can also obtain your superbill through the Headway Therapy client portal.
- Submit your superbill to your insurance company: simply follow the directions your insurance representative provided you.
- Collect your reimbursement!
If you have landed on this page on our website, it is probably safe to assume that you are actively seeking a therapist. You have, most likely, been searching the internet. You’ve scrolled through several different therapist profiles and practices. You have noticed just how many of us there are. Having an abundance of choices is great…except that it can also be overwhelming. Trying to find a therapist that really understands your struggle. On top of that, has the right experience. And, with whom you feel comfortable being vulnerable. How do you decide who is going to be the best fit for you?
Well, you start by getting a feel for the practice and the therapist by looking through their website and seeing if you resonate or connect with something that has been mentioned. And, hopefully, we can provide that for you!

Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost. Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment and hospital fees.
Make sure your health care provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your health care provider and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call my office at (760) 500-2778.
